This section provides consumers with a description of current alerts, known scams and consumer safety issues. Alerts include the dangers of exposure to lead and mercury and the importance of carbon monoxide detectors. We provide information on how you can prevent identity theft in today’s information age and know your rights as a consumer before you sign a contract or make a purchase.

Food and Product Recall Information

We recommend that consumers visit the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the the latest food product recalls and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission for the latest product recalls and safety news.

Elder Fraud and Crime Prevention Program

Seniors are often targeted for identity theft, telemarketing and sweepstakes fraud, and home improvement rip-offs. With so many seniors using the Internet, online scams are an increasing concern. To help generate awareness for this concern, Westchester County launched Senior Crime Busters, a proactive elder fraud and crime prevention program that teaches seniors how to recognize potential scams before they happen, and how to avoid becoming a victim in the first place
